Melinda surrency, dvm
Dr. Melinda Surrency grew up in Roseburg, Oregon and has lived in the Portland Area for the last 30 years. During that time, she has volunteered at the Oregon Zoo and the Audubon of Portland's Wildlife Care Center. After Graduating from Portland State University with an Honors Biology degree, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University in 2007 with special training in exotics, wildlife and ornamental fish.
After graduation, Dr. Surrency worked at a local exotic animal clinic and practiced on fish, amphibians, reptiles, ferrets, skunks, rabbits, rodents, and large cats. She continued seeing exotics at Hillsboro Veterinary Clinic. Currently she is working towards board certification in exotic animal medicine.
During her free time she is active in the local community with various rescue groups such as Portland Guinea Pig Rescue and even serving as President of Rabbit Advocates in 2015-2016. Dr. Surrency was also instrumental in preserving the rights of Oregonians to own domestic pet skunks by helping start the Oregon Skunk Owners group and by speaking at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission Meetings on their behalf. She also enjoys spending time with her pet guinea pigs, cats, dog and pet rats.
